Inaccurate or odd levels for friends? Empty Inaccurate or odd levels for friends?

    Post  MeNMy6Cats Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:31 pm

I have some friends that show very low levels, like level 2 for example, in my friend list or gift consoles. Yet I go to their manor and they are higher levels, like 90+. This occurs on a few friends. Other weird things, someone at level 25 with all the main rooms unlocked or someone at level 50 with just the bed, bath, living, dressing room and kitchen. So I'm wondering is this a bug with game or something else? I know it's silly but it bugs me!

This may be because the friend has lost their game data on their iPad and had to restore it from a backup. The information that contains a player's level is maintained on the player's iPad, not on GI's servers. The GI servers only maintains a record of the last known level for the player.

When I quit MM, I deleted it from my iPad. However, I wanted to check out a couple of things so I downloaded MM again. When I did that, it reset my level back down to 2 because all my previous data from the game had been deleted (by me). At that point, GI's servers recorded my level as 2 and everyone who was still showing up as a friend saw my level drop down from 74 to 2.

If I had restored my data from a backup, my level would be brought back up to 74. However, this would not be automatically sent to the GI servers. The GI servers would still show me as a level 2 until I leveled up again. Leveling up would cause the GI servers to update my new level information.

So during the time in which the game is restored but I hadn't leveled up again, GI's servers would record my level as 2 even though I would really be level 74. If you visited my manor, GI's servers would gather information about my manor for display so it would show you that my level is 74 at that time.

So it all has to do with the communication between the player's data on their iPad and the information recorded on the GI servers. When the data is lost on the player's iPad and then restored, there can be a mismatch until the player levels up again.

Other weird things, someone at level 25 with all the main rooms unlocked or someone at level 50 with just the bed, bath, living, dressing room and kitchen. So I'm wondering is this a bug with game or something else? I know it's silly but it bugs me!

When you see a high level player suddenly appear as if they only have a few rooms unlocked, it's because the player has leveled up while on a lower level player's manor.

Again, this has to do with the communication between what the player is doing on their iPad and what the GI servers record.

Apparently, the GI servers update the player's information on at least two different occasions: (1) When a room search is conducted and (2) when the player levels up.

    (1) We see this every day when it comes to updating the wish list. Even though the wish list is updated on the iPad, no one can see the changes until the player does a room search. That's because the room search triggers GI's servers to record information about the player's game, including what's on their wish list.

    (2) The same basic thing happens when a player levels up. It appears whatever manor the player is on at the time they level up is what is recorded as their manor. So if a high level player goes to a brand new player's manor to level up by banishing snatchins, that's what gets recorded as the high level player's manor. This not only includes the rooms that are opened, but it also includes what is roaming around the manor. This will continue to be maintained as the player's manor information until the player either levels up again or does a room search (since those two activities cause the GI servers to update the player's information again).

    Clear as mud? Wink

Nice to have you and your technical explanation back Vicki! I see this as well and was curious.

You're welcome, and thank you for the kind words. Very Happy Although, I'm not sure how many people will be able to follow my explanation since it is rather technical in nature. It can be hard to understand the interplay between a person's game on their iPad and the information stored on GI's servers. Shocked

I could simplify it into something more understandable, but it would require a more lengthy post so I left it as basic as I could even though it is still rather technical. If anyone wants me to explain what all that means, I'd be happy to do it, but only if asked. Otherwise, I think most people will just gloss over all the technical stuff and be happy that there is an explanation even if it doesn't quite make sense. Basketball

    Vicki,

That was a very good explanation. I always wondered why my friends would gift items that I took off my wish list HOURS ago. I guess if I really only need 1 of a collection item, receive it, and change my wish list... then I should explore a room so that my friends can see my updated list.

If I don't have enough energy to search a room, is there any other way to force an update of my WL on GI's server?

Leveling up would probably update the wish list, but I'm not certain of that. You can level up without having energy by banishing snatchins or trading with Gypsies and other characters that don't require energy for trading. I used to do that all the time to level up to get more tips to give out.

Even if leveling up doesn't update the wish list, as soon as you level up, you'll then have plenty of energy to do a room search so it would still accomplish the goal.

If u dont have energy to do a search to force GI to recognize your changed WL try going into ratings and clicking "find me"....I think that resaves your game at the GI end?

    Vicki,
Appreciate the explanation (and I found it written clearly enough).
