It doesn't give me the option to ask friends for duct tape.... Do I have to buy it or is there another way to get it???

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the duct tape. Is is a collection item, or a room entry item? Where can we see a pic of it?

Duct tape not collection item, it is quest item.
In FB version, it can combine with other items to make alien weapon too.
Duct tape can get by banish robot.

You need to banish the vacuum robot. Check it's drop list to make sure...

I went and banished them (with a golden turtle to up my chances) and no luck..... I'll just keep trying!

I'm not sure how many vacuum robots I had to banish before the duct tape dropped, but it was a lot! That also meant spending A LOT of oil cans! Doesn't that robot take 5 oil cans each? Little did I know that there would be future quests where I would have to spend 10 & 15 oil cans each to banish different robots. As with everything else in this game, save up when you can.
