Do the items needed to assemble the Drill for access to the Laboratory drop from anywhere? So far I've had to request them from friends as I can't see them in any room/roamer drop lists....

Some collect from friends only
But some, i.e. duct tape can get from banish robot, but you need oil can & luck.

I don't think I ever had an item drop. You'll have to ask your friends for everything but the duct tape. Keep in mind that each item can only be given by friends at or above a certain level.
Vacuum cleaner tube - level 28
Hand drill - 30
Battery - 35
Air conditioner - 99
You can get the duct tape by banishing vacuum robots for 5 oil cans each. I had to go to many friend's manors to find them; I only had 2 robots. I just got my last tape & it seemed to take forever! I don't know how many oil cans I paid, with no success. Be patient & good luck!
