Update issues on Kindle Fire

Does anybody know how to download MM updates manually on the Kindle Fire? A couple of months ago I noticed friends were asking me for items for the Gingerbread House, and every time I tried to gift the items on the wall the game would kick me out. My game crashed since then and GI were really helpful and managed to restore my game - and also got the Gingerbread House update! Yey! Is there any way I can force the app to update if I think there's one I've missed?
