Usually not; most of their updates seem to be bug fixes and text changes, not major changes to the game.

Do you by chance mean that sometimes you go to a higher level person's manor and only see some of their rooms open? Rooms that were open before? If so, that is a glitch that can happen. Let your friend know, so they can exit out of MM, their iPad and boot back up again. That usually restores their manor to having the correct rooms open.
Sooz is right....nothing changes just because you are a higher level. I wonder if they'll get to the Expeditions they have a button for on the right-hand side....
