I have been trying to get the emerald for ages and with the new update one of my friends has offered to loan it to me. I have heard that the emerald is needed at a later date. Does anybody know if this is true? (obviously no point in borrowing it if I need to get it anyway). Thanks

You will need an emerald for a later quest, but anything already in your collection won't count. So your best bet is to borrow one now. And borrow one again when it comes up.
