How do I out items such as a burning match on the wish list, if it is not part of any collection?

I don't think you can, but maybe someone else knows if there is a way of doing it that I don't know about! You can no longer put any of the cash register items on your wish list (like alot of the things in the new collections, plus weapons for battling the vampire and crypt boss etc).
If the item you need is something another friend has then you can ask them to gift or loan it to you, they just need to go to gift collection item, find it in their inventory, click gift, then find your name in their friend list and send it. Hope this helps!

But many of my friends do have "burning matches" (for the basement) in their wish list (as a free gift, that doesn't cost you anything), so it should be possible, I just haven't figures out how.

Aah, is that the Facebook version? Most of us in here are iPad players and the game has lots of differences between platforms, hence why I asked about the platform you played on because we don't have a basement on the iPad version.
