If I remember correctly, when I was working on the first tier of the cake, the drops were very infrequent. The fruit & the nuts took me forever! When I got to the second tier (Tasty Construction) where I am now, the only way I got the items was to banish the Snatchin-Cook with a flour bolter (save up). I'm having a devil of a time getting the last few items I need to move on! However, the good news is that lots of the items that drop that you don't need for sweet foundation will be needed for the 2nd & 3rd tiers & they'll keep dropping, however slowly. As I said, I'm not finished the 2nd tier & I have almost all of the items I'm going to need for the last tier. Takes lots of patience, like for everything else in this game!

Agreed -- keep saving up. It takes several hundred of those cake pans to get through all 3 layers of the cake. Also, try to only banish the snatchin cook (and his friends) when you have a turtle running.
(of course I give that advice for most manor creatures -- you may have weapons drop while you're running just a clover, but hold off on using them until you have a turtle running.)

I'm still working on it too! Like everyone else said, patience...
And i wish i'd know there were 2 other layers, I would have held off on charging those colls (oooooops)

I stockpile my chests of diamonds from visiting Facebook each weekend so felt justified in opening them and buying the last couple of items.
