What are others ideas on ideal numbers, I'd say between 100 and 200 max.

Ideal friends total ?
I have just hit the 500 friends total and earnt the 5th ribbon, so now I want to trim this down so that when I'm gifting and visiting I can do this more easily, however the bonus of having so many friends is that you can request hundreds of collection items and I completed the pirate brig in a day this way.

Re: Ideal friends total ?
I would say keep it at 200. Easy to manage number, and enough friends so that you can ask for items quickly when you need them.

Re: Ideal friends total ?
I have just done a massive cull too, got to below 500, the first time in an age. The max I got to was over 1200!! It was almost impossible to decide who to delete and who to keep and in the end it was fairly random. I did my best to keep those I recognised. I would like to build up better trading relationships with friends.
Now I have decided to only add a new friend if I delete another but I have a bit of a problem. I will happily add a new friend from pending when I get notification with a diamond, however I can look in my pending lists and suddenly without warning (or diamonds) I can have 12!!! I mean how? why? What should I do, any suggestions?

Re: Ideal friends total ?
I don't even have 300 yet but I need to pare it down since I'm using the Synthesizer to get diamonds. I'm always adding friends, and always trying to figure out how to gift fairly among what I have.
This is how I'm deciding who to keep and who to chop...
I'm removing friends that I still can't visit after a week post-update because they STILL haven't updated their game. It's not like they can see my wishlist to respond by giving me something I need if I gift them. Plus, they interrupt the flow when visiting friends. I hate penalizing people for a fault with the game itself, but if they've not updated the game in a week they either aren't playing the social aspect like I am (they're not visiting/gifting, just waiting for energy to charge back up to play the rooms) or aren't playing at all. I'd rather gift people who will gift back, or at least accept my gifts so I get a thanks gift.
I'm also removing friends that have been my "friend" for a while and they're still under level 20 with a next-to-nothing reputation stat... means they're not playing enough to level up and have probably already deleted the app.
I also consider the person's energy and strength levels before I gift or leave tips when visiting. It takes so long to get back to fully charged after depleting those, a fully charged guy has either not been playing for a while or, far less likely, just leveled up. I also don't tend to tip when I see someone who has depleted energy but full strength stats; probably means they're not tipping at all. My next round of "friend eliminations" will probably be people that I've noticed stay fully charged a lot. FYI: Just in case I come across someone who thinks about this the same way I do, I generally try to knock out some of my strength and some of my energy as soon as I level up so I don't look to be perpetually fully charged at any time.
In short I'm trying to find ways to prune my friends list back to people who contribute the most without having to spend too much time figuring out who that is. I try to put a little thought into everything I do, even if it isn't as much thought as I could do, such as checking a friend's wish list and making sure they have multiples of something I need before I gift a collection item, but then forgetting who gifted me what I asked for so I could reciprocate. It doesn't usually happen that they gift me back what I need probably because they hit the Take button too fast like I do, but I figured it's better than fishing in a koi pond for trout. Doing things at complete random didn't work any better for me, so I'm trying different methods.
Does anybody find any flaw in my logic or is that helpful?

The only flaw I see is players (like me) who have full strength cause I can't visit anyone. I haven't been very active because of it and I have no quests to do.

Re: Ideal friends total ?
I see Sara (the can't visit girl above) in my friends. I wouldn't unfriend you since your energy is still actively being used, but I might've skipped leaving you tips. I just left you some, though. I know I've looked at your wish list before (I seem to remember it), but I don't have anything on it.
Have people told you not to leave tips, engineer? I'd much rather have a tip for extra coins than nothing at all. In fact I avoid rooms that I don't have a tip in until I get one... I balance what the tip is with what my helpers can give. If a tip is for coins, I make sure my helper can give me experience points, etc. If people have complained, I'd be more apt to just leave tips for lower level players only than to stop completely. Then I'd be less likely to tip the person who complained about getting a gift. Geeez, people, who COMPLAINS about getting a GIFT?!
The only person I've unfriended without just strategic reasons was one person who wrote on my wall after I had requested an item "I only gift to level 99 and up", when they were no where close to that. That's like a homeless guy telling someone trying to befriend them "I only talk to celebrities". Really?! Buzz off. Just like in real life, I give to people of lesser status to help them, and to those of higher status hoping they will help me in return.

I'm with you engineer. I am a banker, too. I have over 1,000 strength and it hard to use it. I wake up anyone and everyone I can, tip the lower level friends and those who specifically asked me to keep tipping and it still doesn't drop fast. Especially, now that it takes FOREVER to visit friends.
Guess we are just saying take a look at the occupation, too. Although some friends don't hesitate to delete bankers.....

I sent you a friend request. You can tip me all you like, I'm not a jerk about it. It never even dawned on me to target bankers for deletion. That's just rude. We DO need coins to banish snatchins, don't we? That's worth a cool fiddy experience points, and they're too hard to come by in this game as it is. A gift is a gift is a gift if you ask me. If you're nice, I might even gift you twice (or a lot).

I'll get you in the a.m., already logged out for tonight:-)
I have just over 100 friends and I'd say they are all wonderful! There are a few who have asked me not to tip, I respect their wishes and wake up their sleepers every chance I get. I don't hold it against them, and we continue to chat with each other and gift each other. I've only added new friends recently because several older ones didn't update and a few told me ahead of time they were going to stop playing because of their frustration with MM.
Going back to the original question-- no more than 120 active friends is ideal for me.
Almost forgot, here is a link to my post on why banker friends are good to have.....http://www.mmuff.com/t417-bankers-unite-reasons-you-need-us-d. We bankers like to spread the word.

Re: Ideal friends total ?
Yeah, actually quite a few people have asked me not to tip. Personally I don't care either, but clearly some people do. So I leave tips until I'm told to stop, or I post on the wall for them to ask for tips if they want them. All I can say is that it's hard to tell whether someone is actually active unless their game is out of date, which is how I go through and delete friends.Soozicle wrote:I see Sara (the can't visit girl above) in my friends. I find your thoughts entirely logical, I think the same way. After a week of barely having any visitors, lots of sleepy helpers and hardly any tips I decided to cull players who were well under 51 rep level for their playing level. In other words I took it that they didn't bother visiting. I did hear from a few people that they were getting 'no server' so couldn't visit but they were regular visitors anyway. I spend half my playing time visiting and leaving tips - over 17500 to date! So I don't think I can be accused of not helping This latest update really helped sort the player/non player for me.
I would never delete a banker for being a banker that's just not fair and are happy for them to tip rooms. I'm an explorer and I sometimes wonder whether my tips are always welcome.
Since ridding myself of 200+ friends I think my game speeded up a bit.
About having full strength etc. I tend to divide my time into visiting and gifting. Then I fire up charms and set about searching rooms, my energy level might not move much at first because I am visiting and then my strength might not change for a while even though I might level up in the process. It may be misleading to someone taking a snapshot at any particular time.

You should unfriend the people who asked you not to tip, that's just rude and selfish. They should learn how to get along, it's a social game after all.

I have a hunch that the person meant, the item you requested can only be gifted by players Level 99 and up -- perhaps the person isn't an English speaker and so something was lost in translation?
Also, I think your logic is sound in choosing to delete players who haven't upgraded in awhile, or those who are no longer active. However, I wouldn't look at the energy levels, because some players might be on 'infinite energy' mode (there's now an artifact that provides it for 24 hours).

Not sure I would base deleting a friend on energy level...they may be using infinite energy trick or just leveled up..etc. some people helps friends more than searching rooms too..so their energy might be higher.

I've had the same problem since the full moon update. I can intermittently visit my low level friends only (below level 30) and despite me showering these lucky few people with tips and waking helpers my strength is usually pretty high. I still send gifts to all my friends via the friends tab. When I can I let my friends know I can't visit and encourage them to let me know what they need since I cannot see their Wish List.sfinley ibrahim wrote:The only flaw I see is players (like me) who have full strength cause I can't visit anyone. Re: Ideal friends total ?
Couple things to be aware of:
1) as already mentioned, bankers a lot of times won't tip (I'm one of them) unless the player has asked for tips or has any rooms that require money to open still closed
2) with the infinite energy trick, my energy is almost always full, even when I'm exploring rooms. The energy refills faster than I can search usually.
3) with the above two things, when you're looking to delete someone, if their energy and strength is full, check their wall. If you see "thank you" posts that are recent, odds are they are still playing
4) I used to accept all friend requests, now I won't accept them unless their reputation level is close to their playing level (or maxed out at 51). I ws shocked today to get a request from level 60 player with level 1 reputation. I use to send those people a message about how to raise that level and why you should, but I got tired of doing that so I just de
Ete request now. If their levels are within 10 of each other, I watch it the next few days to see if their reputation starts going up, since those are probably players who didn't understand what the reputation level thing was right away.

Yeah, it took me to level 20-something before I figured out that in order to be successful with this game I HAD to play the social aspect. In fact, I didn't even know until then that I could get friends by any means other than pestering my Facebook friends, which I wasn't about to do. I'm currently level 56 with a reputation of only 36 because of that.
I've never deleted anyone because their strength stats were maxed (unless they were a low level player with very low reputation), but I have avoided leaving tips. I forgot to mention I look at their reputation number, too, when considering whether to leave tips or wish list items or not. Most times I leave at least three tips (when I have the strength) regardless.
