What exactly is the point/benefit of the magic magnets? The only thing I see is that a magnet will move the pictures of coins, lightning and stars off the screen without one having to tap on them. But do we really have to tap on these pictures? We still get the coins, energy, and experience if we just let them go at their own pace, right? I feel like I'm missing something important about the magnets, but I just can't figure it out...

Frequently, the coins, etc are hiding an item that you need to click on. I almost never explore a room without using a magnet.

They are useful when you are battling the clock because of a phenom being in the room and speeding up time. They whisk the items away quickly, so you can see things better.
As you move up from Novice to Expert level in a room you have to find more items, but in the same amount of time. Some find the magnets helpful when they are at that Expert level in a room. I didn't use them at all in the beginning, but have found them more useful in the above situations.

So that means, you will not loose anything, if you don't use a magnet? I am always in a hurry, while collecting those things, 'cause I thought they will be lost, when I don't do this.

The energy, coin, and experience icons that pop after clicking on an item are automatically counted. They simply stay on the screen for a short amount of time as a feature of the game. Using a magnet does not give you more or less. It simply clears the screen by pulling the icons so that you can see all the items that you have to find.
