I've only noticed this in the island room, but will keep a look out in other rooms now that you mention it. Not that I looked too closely but my impression was that the new items (that didn't appear in other rooms like the bottle) were a different shade of grey. Of course, it probably is just another GI programming quirk with no significance.

I know that I noticed it before I opened the island room...I think the Sakura room and the spaceship?? Thanks for the feedback tho!

I find these shades of grey quite useful actually. It helps you making difference between a "barometer" and a "Black Mark" for instance in the brig.
I've seen them in Brig & Island...
